During extraction, Sandman, Grinch, and Truck are killed when the mine collapses on them.

On January 21st, 2017, 3 months after the end of World War III, Price and Yuri track Makarov to the Hotel Oasis (loosely based on the Burj Al Arab in Dubai) in the Arabian Peninsula. They assault the hotel, with Price and Yuri wearing E.O.D. armor, which is later destroyed. On the hotel roof, Makarov attempts to escape on a helicopter, but Price jumps on, killing the two pilots and crashing the helicopter back onto the roof. A dazed Makarov prepares to execute an equally injured Price, but is distracted by Yuri; Makarov shoots and kills Yuri instead. Angered, Price takes advantage of the moment to tackle Makarov, wrapping a steel cable around his throat and tying it into a noose before he breaks through the glass ceiling of the roof, resulting in Makarov's death. Price lands on the atrium floor just below and survives. As the police arrive on the scene, Price sits up in front of Makarov’s hanging corpse and smokes a cigar.

Like Left 4 Dead, the sequel involves the consequences of an apocalyptic pandemic. There has been an outbreak of a pathogen such as rabies which causes infected humans to behave like zombies. The four survivors have to wade through hordes of infected, safe houses on the road to rest and recover, in order to reach the extraction point. Left 4 Dead 2 is located in the southern United States, from Savannah, Georgia and ends in New Orleans, Louisiana. Left 4 Dead 2 introduces four new survivors, whose backstory will be provided through dialogue. Unlike the first game where no significant development of the story, Left 4 Dead 2 will feature a story arc.

After climbing a skyscraper in Savannah in order to rescue the survivors are left by helicopter and head to the local mall after hearing the word of a second evacuation point not ("Dead"). The mall has proven to be invaded, and four use a race car to burst the mall and travel to New Orleans. Find the road completely blocked by wrecked vehicles, the four are forced to travel through an amusement park still operating, and start a fireworks and lights show to attract the attention of a helicopter pilot ("Dark Carnival ").

Co-op: Players can connect with their friends and battle AI in multiple game types including the Stalingrad Campaign, Skirmish Mode, and more.

Offline Challenges: Offline challenges such as the shooting range and assault courses let the player learn and hone their skills to perfection with all of the weapons and features in the game. Training with different challenges to achieve awards, win competitions and improve their skills the player can pit their best times/scores against the rest of the online gaming community.
